Re: cutting thin glass for cylindrs

Ian, Take a look at this one. It was my last project in my school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoTdqRT4QVg One of the highlights was a set of two locs pulling 50(fifty) 3D-printed wagons. (50 anniversary of our school) Funny detail. The little loc in front is not pulling of course, it is pushed ...

Re: cutting thin glass for cylindrs

'Had' it is Ian, retired a few months ago... I use a diamond'saw' in a Dremel tool. I made a wooden bracket to fix the Dremel in my lathe's toolpost. Insert the glasstube in the lathes chuck. The glass tube is protected using a thick piece of rubber. Very carefully close the lathes jaws. The trick is...

Re: Stirling Engine driven vehicle

Krijn, I mailed Malcolm a while ago and he gave me some info/tips on this buggy. -The engine in its present form has a free speed of over 1000RPM, and about 175 watts of power. -I chose a beta engine because, with a rhombic mechanism it can be perfectly balanced; I don't like vibration. -Starting wa...

Re: Thinking of purchasing mill/Lathe

Hi,
Like Ian says : get the biggest you can afford, or have room for. You wont regret it.
I would consider buying a rotary table/tailstock and the Super X3 has a extra long table available to. It all depends on what your planing to do with it.

Re: Trying to make an Andy Ross B20

Hi, I had contact to with Andy. Last year he sent me plans of that B-20. They were all imperial, with his kind permission I redrew these plans to metric. I can send you a copy. I started working on that B-20 but did not finish it yet. Most of the parts are done. Still, a few more to make. This B-20 ...

Re: 3D printed stirling engine

I know off topic, sorry guys, still... Something I forgot to mention about these printers. Maybe, just maybe someone got interested... Cost for a selfmade 3D-printer, depending where you buy your hardware : between 300 and 400 € (400 to 450 USD). This printer will print objects about 190x190x...

Nice, very nice indeed vamoose,

I saw these to but I think the other movies in that 'caloric16' Youtube account are also worth watching.
I like that buggy made by Mr. Malcolm Rowney a lot.

Re: Stirling engine as college project

Severin, I teach in a small technical school Duffel (Belgium). The kids I work with are age 14 to 18 years old. They all very much like to work on these projects. They all work in groups, not as individuals, and because of that they like working in 'my' workshop. In fact they look forward to it ever...
