crankshaft orientation question

Hey all, I'm building my first stirling, finnaly :P So I've made the linkages from the displacer and piston from paper clip (yes this is a ghetto soup tin engine). My question is, does the rotation of the shaft depend on how the linkages are connected to the shaft? It's hard to phrase my question so...

Re: Displacer/chamber diameter ratio

Yes, that helps. Have you got any good examples?

Re: Need help with our gamma school project engine

Hello, Hayman, I'm new, but I have a little input. Are you using a coolant on top as well as heat on the bottom? Also, I don't think you are supposed to use oil because it can get in the machine and vaporize which is no good, but I don't think a tiny but will do anything.

Re: Displacer/chamber diameter ratio

Eh... thats all beyond me  For a first engine, I just want to do it basic. Is Italian your first language, Ferraccio?

Re: Displacer/chamber diameter ratio

Jester, thanks for the great info! Can you explain the regeneration concept? I've heard the term before but I don't know what it means. Ian, cool idea, I think if I make an LTD, I'll use pickle jar lids for the top and bottom of the displacer cylinder. They are redily availible and not too hard to w...

Re: Displacer/chamber diameter ratio

Ian S C thanks so much for the help! After doing more research I am sort of leaning more towards the LTD type, with a wide and short displacer cylinder. I'm going to try to get some 100mm clear tube and use that, and make it about an inch tall. So should my displacer be around 3/4" tall? And wh...

Displacer/chamber diameter ratio

I am designing my first Stirling engine and I am wondering how much clearance the displacer should have inside of the chamber. I'm guessing that the bigger the chamber the bigger the gap, but I guess it also has to do with the amount of air above and below the displacer. If the inside of my chamber ...
