Re: SS Hot End from Restaurant Supplies

hi jerry
i think you can find them cheap in India. SS vessels/cpntainers are sold here by weight and they come in all sizes and shapes also.
maybe you can find some indian e-seller on the net who can ship to your country.

gamma engine clearances

hi i want to ask a couple of questions about gamma engines. 1) the clearance between displacer piston and cylinder at end of stroke should be as less as possible. right? this is to make sure the all enclosed gas move in hot and cold places. i read somewhere that people are using clearance down to 0....

Re: What is this measuring device

Hi i work on oil rigs and ships. our workshop is pretty basic with tools like lathe, drill press and welding machines. we do not undertake heavy work. just what is required for day to day running and normal maintenance. for heavy work or special requirement we get it done on shore. Thats why i dont ...

What is this measuring device

Hi Sorry for a topic other than Stirling Engine. I was looking around my workplace and found out this measuring device. Do you know what is it called and for what is it used. Its a sort of depth gauge and it can measure angles also. If anyone of you know how to use it, it will be of great help. than...

Re: Stirling Engines with Supercritical Fluids?

Hi I dont know about using super critical fluids. What I know is at certain pressure and temperature water also acts as supercritical fluid. You can find the pressure temperature from PV (pressure volume) diagram for a given gas. Also have anyone tried to use CFC or HCFC or any other refrigerent as ...

CPU stirling cooler

Hi I came across these pictures while googling for CPU coolers. isnt it a great idea? A stirling engine to cool a computers CPU. I dont know if they are successful. Have anybody seen them for real? Maybe the are just technology demonstrator. But awsome anyways. thanks rustybarrel msi_eco_2.jpg msi_e...

Power piston diameter

Force = pressure x area So I was thinking if I increase area of power piston by increasing its diameter will I get more power out of my stirling engine? Swept volume can be kept constant by reducing the stroke? Any idea? I will probably require a bigger flywheel also. I am not interested in more rpm...

Re: Anodised Aluminium options?

Hi I was reading about anodising aluminium the other day. From what I got to know is this. Hard anodising is done with a dilute solution of sulphuric acid ( dilute than used for normal anodising) but with the solution temperature maintained at 2 - 4 degree C. I think it will be a costly affair to do...

Gamma type engine design

Hi Sorry. Again a new post. I am new to this forum and my mind churns out atleast two Stirling engine ideas per day. So instead of going mad I am posting it here. We know that in gamma engine connection to the power cylinder from displacer is given either from cold end or from a middle point. What w...

Design ideas for displacer cylinder

Hi I am thinking of brazing an aluminium heat sink from PC to the end of displacer cylinder for improved heat transfer. The question nagging me most is which way to put the heat sink? Should I put it with its fins facing outside so it can gather more heat. Or should i put it with fins facing inside ...

Re: Stirling engine for running a car alternator

I dont know but correct me if i am wrong. To charge a battery you need to have voltage greater than that supplied by battery. But the current has no limit. If the current is low it will take long time to charge and if current is high it will take less time. Only thing to remember is the total power ...

Re: New Piston design idea

Thanks for the feedback. I will make a ribbed piston and compare its performance with existing piston. I will try to post the results as soon as possible. And can u guide me about labyrinth piston. Is the concept possible for stirling engine? I have worked on big compressors where this design is use...

Re: New Piston design idea

Thanks for the info. I am not thinking about using rings. i just want to cut the ring grooves so that piston surface area will reduce. Its the piston that will seal the gases.

Re: "Hi" We are new here!

Hi I am from India. Working as an engineer in oil and gas industry. I first came to know about Stirling engine when I was in college. There we tried to built a stirling engine with R22 as working fluid. Failed in that attempt. Its only now that I am again bitten by stirling engine bug. I brought a r...

New Piston design idea

Hi As u know friction is one of the biggest enemy of stirling engine. I was thinking to reduce friction can we use a ribbed piston? We cut groves along the lenght of piston same as piston ring grooves. This will reduce the surface area of piston which will further reduce friction. Also the displacer...
