Assert administrative athority Ian

Maybe you should think about blocking that nob, whoever he or she is, that is infiltrating your forum. Either by user name or ip address or both. Just sayin'... ;evil;

Re: Help with materials for cylinder, piston, and displacer

Let me see if I have this right. A 2" diameter Piston with a 2" stroke will displace 6.28 cu. in. of air. (pi r squared h) If the ratio is 1.5:1, then the Displacer needs to displace 9.42" cu. in. of air right? (6.28 x 1.5 = 9.42) So then my 1.75" x 4" Displacer with a 4&quo...

Help with materials for cylinder, piston, and displacer

Ok, so I've decided on 2" piston with a stroke of 2.5" (for some unknow reason). And a Displacer 1.75" diameter and 5.25" long (I think I used someone's ratio). If there is something wrong with those dimentions right off, please speak up. Now what to build a chepo prototype out o...

Re: If I build it, will they come? Hehe.

Let me take one thing at a time here so as to better understand things. I was wondering about resistance that the moving displacer would have upon the system. I used an online calculator to figure what the volume of air is around a 1.9375 (1 7/8") displacer in a 2" cylinder at any given ti...

Re: A Timing question

In an effort to try to understand the principles involved in the Stirling engine I opened my CAD and started to draw. Please tell me if I'm on the right track with my thinking. To simplify the drawing I just used a 1" wide cylinder and a 1" wide Piston with a 2 1/2" stroke for both th...

Re: Thermodynamics

I was wondering the same question and for the same reason. I'm fairly certain, although not quite entirely sure, that it has something to do with "dead air". I'm new to this whole Sterling engine design so I've researched as much info as I could, so far, and what I've read seems to indicat...

A Timing question

I've read that the Piston should trail the Displacer by 90 degrees. Why is this so? Is the 90 degree offset true for all operating conditions or is it just a good average to use that works under all operating conditions? I mean, if there was a way to advance or retard the timing of the piston becaus...

If I build it, will they come? Hehe.

Hi all, I'm new to the Stirling Engine and am fasinated by it so would like to build one. Firstly, I am no math expert. In fact, I don't understand all the fancy equations and all the goesinta's related to same. But, I can understand a well written sentence so if you're willing to spend a little tim...

Re: "Hi" We are new here!

Hello everyone! Just saying hi so that y'all know that I am indeed real. :)

I have many, many questions, as I just found out about the Stirling engine and would like to build one.

So without further ado...
