Re: Help building an FPSE

I measured the k of the Displacer Spring (a rubber bellows and flat Spring combination) and the power piston (a larger rubber bellows) and matched the fundamental frequencies at RTP. Interestingly the fundamental should be 5.38Hz but the engine runs at 6.4Hz so I think there could well be some milea...

Re: Help building an FPSE

Okay, so some progress made. I'd terminated my cylinder with a pressed aluminium cap - when I tested this, I found that heat transmission was extremely slow (a delta t of 120 degrees Celsius took 120seconds when heated over a gas burner) so I replaced it with a pressed stainless cap and bingo the en...

Sunpower plans

I read somewhere that Sunpower used to provide plans to build a free piston demonstration engine. Has anyone here used them to build a version at home? If so, how did it perform?

Re: Harwell TMG

Hi Luka, Isn't there another TMG shown on YouTube too (https://youtu.be/DFy4lzGUHyM)? Would it be worth contacting him? I know that some members of the Stirling Engine Society have some information on the TMG as they had met and talked about the design with Cooke-Yarborough. Perhaps an email to them...

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your post but I can't see the attachment - could you try re-attaching?

Re: Homemade Engine with Generator

Hi Wayne, Very nice work indeed, it looks like a great project. Have you measured the hot and cold side temperatures? You might be able to push the engine with a bit more delta T? Also, I wonder how high geared you could go with the generator? I didn't notice any drop in revs when you placed it unde...

Help building an FPSE

Hi, I'm currently trying to build a Free Piston engine like Attila Blade large model on YouTube. I'm having problems getting this engine running. I've followed the general scheme but have made the cylinder with a 1.4mm stainless tube with an 8mm thick aluminium end cap. The rest is similar to Attila...

Re: "Hi...We are new here!" First posts here (or anywhere is OK)

Hi All,

I'm a scientist and DIY enthusiast who has an interest in Stirling engines. When I first found them on Youtube, I was hooked and I'm particularly interested in the practical applications of FPSEs. I look forward to contributing.
