Re: What is the difference between thermal lag and lamina flow engines

@derwood
That's good information. Thank you. I have never seen that tip in any of the video's I've watched. Thank goodness for this forum.

Re: Flame temperature

Not in any kerosene burner I've seen. If the wick is adjusted properly it burns clean with no soot or odor at all.

Re: Flame temperature

Kerosene burns with a wick, just like an alcohol lamp.

Re: New engines and ideas

I think i have identified some prolems.
1. Membranes too tight, like drum heads> loosen them
2. Cone is too stiff using copy paper> make it again using brown lunch bag paper.

Re: New engines and ideas

Here's the paper cone. It is 17cm long x 14 mm wide. Made from copy paper (20#) and corn flakes box. Electrical tape, and glue stick. Fastened to 90 degree 1/2" copper pipe elbow. http://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah96/frenchie1919/IMG_20160226_141125_zpseigvmyqo.jpg Once I get something actually ...

Flame temperature

I see lots of stirling engines on youtube running on an alcohol lamp.
Wouldn't a hotter flame give more power?
Isopropyl alcohol = 680F
Kerosene = 3801F
Ethanol = 3486F

I would choose kerosene since it's hotter and cheaper.
Does this make sense?

Re: New engines and ideas

I think tibsim said it was too much and stopped. It's on his blog. He shows several models, which shows the evolution to this version.

Re: New engines and ideas

Impressed by tibsim thermo- acoustic engine. Going to try it.
The pvc at the ends are pvc pipe caps.

Re: What is the difference between thermal lag and lamina flow engines

I guess I'll try the impedance matching if I can detect whether I'm anywhere in the ballpark to getting a sustained oscillation. The diaphram is showing two states, when cool it bounces when I tap it. When hot it's puffed out and doesn't bounce very much.

Re: High powered Stirling going into production

The only engine i have seen that is commercially viable is the big sunpulse. But I'm just a novice and not an expert.

Re: New engines and ideas

I will try and build this. I think maybe " Tyvek" might be good for cone. How hot does the cone get? Also can pipe that contains the cone be copper? Or does it have to be steel? Very nice engine tibsim.

Re: What is the difference between thermal lag and lamina flow engines

Hi mhe This is supposed to be a TLE not a LFE. Thats why I asked the original question of " what's the differrence". Well ive seen an thermoacoustic engine with two diaphrams and they were at 90 degrees to the pipe so i figured this would be okay also. One diaphragm had a weight and one a magnet. Al...
