Hi mhafele !
1 / hot cap should be as thin as possible ( thickness of hot cap my stirling :about = 0.5 mm )
2 / between hot and cold zone should be insulation ( insulation :you can use teflon...)

You should have your engine image, the important of covers for burners: fit outside diameter, length, and height to the floor of heating chamber

You should check out everything Ian said
And you should check this position, it requires airtight and the shaft must move smoothly, It requires a fairly straight shaft, and the hole fits snugly

But why do not you do pig grilling like the version for chicken ?? Use the one heat source for two purposes ?
