Re: My stirling engine project

Hi jorgealdobr, welcome to the forum! Maybe you can use a hosting service somewhere on the internet? It would be nice to see what sort of engine you have designed. For photo's you can use upload-sites such as https://imageshack.com/ or other similar sites, it's free. Looking forward to your photo's/...

Building a Prony Brake

hello everybody, To test engines, i want to make a so called prony brake. I searched the internet, but there is not that much info that is helpful. I looked at this diy prony brake, and i think i understand the working of it now. To test engine power, you have to attach a clamp or similar to the axi...

Re: NASA Stirling research

I think it is in a way a bit sad that such things are not open to certain people. I believe NASA has a good bit of knowledge there, and that can be used to boost the usefulness of the SE. I understand that they don't want other countries to steal their ideas, but i think a great bit of their knowled...

Re: 2-cylinder Gamma - project

Yeah, predicting that is not simple. We just made a diaphragm with random size and tested how much water will fit in it. Multiply that with 2, and that is the displacement. So i calculated the exact dimensions, but i made a mistake by calculating the displacement of the displacer. I calculated less ...

Re: 2-cylinder Gamma - project

Is it a big problem if we reduce the displacer-stroke to 24 mm, instead of 40 mm. We made a mistake in calculating the diaphragm displacement, so we have to change the displacement of the displacer cylinder. If we make the stroke of the displacer 24 mm, we still have the 1:1,5 ratio, so that shouldn...

Re: Stirling engine for non-profit rural use.

Hello Raguna, welcome on the forum! I think you have a very good idea there. It is only difficult to find Stirling-engines that can do so. Nonetheless personally i'm certain it is possible. It would be a very nice application of the Stirling-engine, if it could help people. You can look on Youtube f...

NASA Stirling research

Hello everybody,

Just came accros this video.
It is shot at a NASA Research Centre, and they have stirling-engines running there.

I thought they did it only in the past, and quit research, but this video is recent?
Does anybody know more of this? I found the video very interesting.

Re: 2-cylinder Gamma - project

Thank you Vamoose, it's only my second Stirling-engine, my first one was a tin can version, the one from Specallez. It costed me quite a bit of time to make it, and then wouldn't work. I spent about 10 hours on that one to get it running. That brought me into Stirling Engines. Most knowledge comes f...

Nice collection!

I know a few other ones, i'm almost sure you must have seen them, but i just add them here.
It don't seem you can copy them, so here are just the links.

Alpha type
Beta type (same as # 2, but i thought it was their gif?)

Re: stirling engine with helium/hydrogen/other gases

I don't think your question is that simple. Overall it is very difficult to make an engine that will hold such gasses, even for a short time. I don't know of an engine that is currently available, maybe others know? Building yourself such an engine is also not that simple. You have to start at the b...

Thank you for your interest Ian SC, you seem to be the only one who is reading this  The 3D model is almost finished now, and we're a bit further with the actual build. first a few pics of the 3D-model: Sideview: http://imageshack.us/a/img713/6954/rw6f.jpg from above: http://imageshack.us/a/i...

Re: 2-cylinder Gamma - project

Some progress here in the Netherlands: Just made the diaphragms. Here are photo's how i made it. The first 3 pieces were bad, the fourth was good, but not the right size. Then i made 2 of the right size: http://imageshack.us/a/img41/5351/upck.th.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img189/7577/94vk.th.jpg htt...

Re: DIY rubber bellow as power piston

I've just made 2 nice Diaphragms for my 2-cylinder Gamma-project. The idea comes from this video: It is basically Rubber pond-liner that is pressed, and heated, so it stays in the new shape. Here are photo's how i made it. The first 3 pi...

Re: 2-cylinder Gamma - project

Ok i'll keep the dimensions in mind when i go searching for the materials. We've started on making a 3d-model of the engine. In this way we can make nice detailed plans to make all the parts. Currently we just designed the base, and we're going to make it very soon. I have already in my mind how to ...
