Re: Stirling power generator

Im afraid 3 kW Stirling engine is nothing you would go camping with.

Re: Noob question - would these parts work?

Well, technically it still is a displacer (it displaces medium), and it even does the same job in alpha as in other configurations, the only difference is it is attached to a piston instead of a rod. A honed stainless cylinder with a well made cast iron piston will have similar friction to an ordina...

Re: Noob question - would these parts work?

Blaf, That motor gets its power from being an ALPHA motor, it has no fancy regenerator. With a generator in place it will easily run a radio, or charge a battery. Here it is now with it's air cooling, and I'v removed the side arm on the yoke and fitted a roller that slides up and down in a slot, I ...

Re: Noob question - would these parts work?

Oh dear, i thought my order for ventilation pipes (which i planned to use for cylinders), i made weeks ago, got ignored since i didn't get any response from manufacturer. Now i've received an email saying the order is being delivered.

It seems i'll have to try to build it anyway...

Re: Big size stirling

There are companies like e.g. Inresol, Whispergen, Microgen or Sefton motors manufacturing commercially available stirling engines.
Unfortunately i don't have any experience with any of these, but maybe others will be able to tell you some referencies.

Re: Big size stirling

Stirlings of several meters in size were built a century ago. Modern engines are usually much smaller units with increased efficiency via modern engineering and increased working pressures. Maybe you could plug more such smaller engines in boiler of this size? Largest stirling i know about is built ...

Re: High powered Stirling going into production

Yup, i also wouldnt expect it to be this loud considering the long development.
Could it be its not a mechanical noise but more of an aerodynamic one? It has 10 atmospheres of pressure so maybe it creates some audible waves...

Re: Bekaert regenerator material

I see. Yes, the construction might be quite similar.

Catalytic converter sounds like a nice low cost regenerator alternative. But do they have at least some regenerating effect?

Re: Bekaert regenerator material

Unfortunately i don't have any project right now for which i could use it :( I just found it interesting and wanted to share this finding.

Btw, how is this connected to bearing bush? Am i missing something? :)

Re: Bekaert regenerator material

It looks like it could be expensive, true. Maybe it would be worth asking if they are willing to send free sample :)

Bekaert regenerator material

Hi, i just found this. The company is producing a material intended to use as a regenerator in stirling engines. https://www.bekaert.com/en/products/automotive/drive-train/sintered-fiber-media-for-regenerator-materials Does anyone have a...

Re: Noob question - would these parts work?

Actually the reason i intented to go that big is to have higher tolerance to imperfections that would inevitably come considering my construction options. And maybe still have some power left to light a bulb or charge a radio :) I've already seen this engine of yours in other threads. Very nice inde...

Re: Noob question - would these parts work?

To be honest, so far i only managed to assemble two small stirling models from premade parts :) Ok then, if you both say this would probably be bigger than i could chew, considering my lack of essential knowledge/skills, i will rather rather start with something smaller. Thanks for the advice. I thi...
