Re: Where can I get 1hp to 2hp stirling engine?

um, I was referring to the ST-5 engine project.....I should have been more specific. I was making a joke. Whispertech is just fine by me. I just don't think they sell retail units to individuals, however. I am always suspicious of the "non-price" advertisement.

Re: V-twin compressor pump...

Well, you have a point. The thermal conductivity of stainless steel is 16 W/mK, alumina ceramic is 24, and graphite is 25-470, depending on the grade. I hate working with stainless, but I think I can come up with something. The frictional coefficent and wear characteristics of cast iron cylinders ar...

Re: Ideas for Regenerator

Most people use stainless steel wool. Can be found at the dollar store. I have been wondering about a rotary regenerator, made from a disc drive platter (has its own bearings and motor). Basically, you have the advantage of a larger surface area even if you only use a quadrant of it. The surface ten...

Re: Stirling University Project - Phase angle question

According to some of the research I've read, the range is about 80 deg. to 120 degrees. The 120 deg. phase angle makes for an easy start engine, but reduced power yet higher efficiency. From what I have gathered, 90 degrees is best for an engine, the others are for cryocoolers. Read the information ...

Re: Where can I get 1hp to 2hp stirling engine?

I only found a 500w unit. http://www.ve-ingenieure.de/projekt_st05g_cnc_engl.html You will have to build it yourself. Try www.emachineshop.com if you want them to make the parts for you. The CAD drawings are for sale. The only other way is to get one from a 3rd world country, and I am sure they will...

Re: "Hi" We are new here!

well, looks like I'm the new guy. I work as a certified master mechanic with emphasis on diagnostics. Been doing that for about 20yrs, so I've picked up on some engineering and learned how to criticize some so-called engineers. Comes with the experience. I have always thought the stirling engine was...

Re: Website Links Area

This is what I am learning from. nasa's mod II automotive stirling engine report. Very insightful and a good source of information. http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19880002196_1988002196.pdf Here is the ST-05G 500w stirling engine with free downloadable drawings. I definitely ha...

Re: V-twin compressor pump...

I won't be using air cooling, but I will be using the fan/flywheel in addition to 1/4" copper pipes flattened out slightly to increase contact area and placed in a plastic water container. The hot end will use 5/32" brake lines....lots of them. I might use copper if my fuel supply is too f...

Re: V-twin compressor pump...

Ah....someone with a parallel project that mirrors my own. I too am using the same 5hp compressor. My method is going to be is to de-stroke the crankshaft to a 30mm stroke instead of the stock 60mm. With the pistons falling short by 30mm, they will be capped with a 30mm graphite top with a teflon se...
