Re: Stirling engine as college project

Hi, indeed as Ian already wrote : You didn't pick the simplest motor to start with..! Some of Andys' engines, he will answer all questions but will not support them anymore. Meaning there are no more casted crankcases available anymore for these 'old' engines. That's what he told me by mail. I would...

1200 mm...! Thats is one dish...! I'm in the middle of the same project with a smaller dish/engine. I've tested that dish (600 mm) holding it towards the sun, held a piece of paper at the focal point. An instance later the paper got brown and less than two seconds later that piece of paper was on fi...

Re: Spammers, Hackers and Our Forum

Theropod2, Have you gone far too far out in left field..? I don't think so, in many ways I do think the same. - If money is an issue to keep this forum alive I'll be very glad to contribute myself. - This forum should not disappear. I'm sure Darryl will not let that happen. Like you said before, bec...

Re: Spammers, Hackers and Our Forum

Vamoose,

I did a quick search in the members list and found 'Dolk' has the same rights to it as Darryl, so no problem there...
Maybe a moderator or 2 would make their tasks lighter and a quicker response to ads and spam possible.

theropod2, 100% correct, this forum needs a moderator(s)..!... http://www.telescopemaking.be/forum/images/smiles/waytogo.gif If Darryl wants me in his 'team' I'll help him out here, (I have two smaller forums of my own) Whatever he decides the(se) moderator(s) don't need to have full access, (enough...

Coco,

Using wet floral foam, you're in the wrong department I think...
This is not the steam-engine forum but Stirling-engine forum if I'm not mistaken...

Just kidding, couldn't resist...

Re: Stirling engine as college project

Hi guys, I would not advise GrabCad to download plans/drawings from. I did download and found out that a lot of these engines (drawings) were not complete. I told the administrator about this problem but I got no answer from these guys. To verify download the STP or STEP files from these engines and...

Re: DIY Epoxy Kitt graphite coated piston

Hi,

I have lots of experience using resin(molding).
Maybe, just maybe resin will do the job to. I'll try it one of these days...!

Thanks,

Re: performance on different materials for displacer

Making a LTD displacer you have to watch the relation between cylinder and its displacer but you'll have a rather loose tolerance compared with a Alpha or Gamma engine. A few tenths of a millimeter error will not harm a LTD engine. But in case of a Alpha make its displacer a few tenths of a millimet...

Re: performance on different materials for displacer

ogrekill, For example a polystyrene displacer is not to be used in an Alpha type Stirling engine because of the heat. Alpha engines needs lots of heat to run, in lost of these engines you'll need a gas-torch to heat the cylinder. Very often the displacer cylinder is heated until it's red-hot, no env...

Re: All Glass LTD?

theropod2, You could use a alcohol flame. It's rather hot(enough) and will not melt the Duran or Pyrex displacer cylinder. A gas torch will not work because it will melt the glass, or at least the gas flame will deform the glass part as in one of my tests a while ago using a Duran displacer cylinder...

Stirling engines -Schoolprojects-

Hi there, These are engines built by my students. This engine is of own design. It's basically the same engine as we built one year ago, only this time we also made a 2-cylinder. We were very happy the 2 cylinder ran that fast, over 1000 rpm during maidenrun. Thanks for watching. To be clear, my stu...
