Stirling 'first run'
Hi, http://gti-duffel.be/4B/StirlingCD/Stirling-CD01.mpg http://gti-duffel.be/4B/StirlingCD/Stirling-CD100.jpg This is what pupils from our school (GTI-Duffel - Belgium) made. It took about 5 pupils on a 2 hours/week basis to finish it in almost 4 months. Purpose is to have this engine mounted on a ...

Re: Flame-eater on track 'Gauge 1'
Hi, Meanwhile I found myself this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxBKE_8kicE and the beauty of it, the man who created this magnificent running thing lives almost nextdoor. He has no plans or drawings to work with, but he's prepared to meet me in a few days, so we can discuss and talk about it. Th...

Flame-eater on track 'Gauge 1'
Hi there, I've read about a flame-eater driving a train. This project is described in a booklet 'Heisluftmotoren VII' bij Udo Mannek. I'm interested in building such an engine, but my intension is to drive a small train (or maybe just the loc) with it. My goal is to drive a train to have it run on a...

Re: Heliostat Solutions for aiming parabolic reflector?
Hi guys, I'm into astronomy. If you want to track the sun, a equatorial mount would help you a lot. To be clear on the matter, speed summer or winter is the same. Only the position of the sun is a bit different in height. For a few bucks you could buy such a mount. With a bit of luck there even is a...

Re: Compressed air engine
Thanks again for the input and the tips guys, Chriskie, I am not sure what you are teaching with this project. But if you want to teach efficiency or engineering I suggest you simplify the system. The others who mentioned power loss are correct. Every time you convert your power you will lose a lot ...

Re: Compressed air engine
Thanks guys, ...for the comment so far. I think this project, if correctly designed, should work just fine. Possibly the 50% drop of power, as Ian wrote, is a bit on the high side. let's hope it will not be the case... On the other hand I think we should indeed consider about the cooling, and even f...

Compressed air engine
Hi guys, I'dd like to start a new project next schoolyear (I'm a teacher) Purpose is to run an air engine, which will spin an alternator(of some kind) which will feed an electric motor. These motors will be used to drive a cart capable transporting one person. I'm not planning to make a speedy machi...

Re: Teflon rod as piston material?
I think it's not workable because of the expansion, caused by the engine's heat.
Never tested it myself...
Other thoughts....?
