Re: large lamina flow build

@derwood I like the single cylinder model, i think it works well. Your plans don't describe the fabrication of the pointed end of the inner pipe. Are both ends of the inner pipe closed? Is the pointed end solid metal? How far back is it solid? I don't understand the statement " two cold ends&qu...

Molded power piston experiment

I have an idea for a custom made power piston that could be made to fit any cylinder. Basically I'm going to try and mix together powdered graphite, Durhams Rock hard water putty and water. Pour it into a piece of the cylinder and let it set up. The graphite will make it slippery, the water putty I'...

Re: The use of concrete for models

I like the idea of a two part displacer to minimize conduction of heat between the two sections. I keep wishing for a durable material to use that approximates the cylinders on LTD gamma and the Pringles can metronome.
Needed is a material that won't burn or melt and has poor heat conduction.

Re: large lamina flow build

Derwood
So if cooling doesnt help much then i think the central pipe should be removed as it seems it's conducting heat to the cold side. And go back to a regular stack. Then cooling should work.

@derwood
Do you have a drawing?
@ IANsc
Yes I was impressed by the video without a crank/flywheel. But arent they harder to get going?

Good thing I read this topic. I made an aluminum can displacer to put into my engine, I'm on my way to trash it rght now. Looking for steel.

Re: Metronome engine question

Two things. The hose on the metronome could be the long pre- coiled plastic air hose like the picture below. http://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah96/frenchie1919/Screenshot_2016-03-02-06-21-17_zpsodudxoxb.jpg Question: 1. Could the long hose be replaced by a short pipe connected to a diaphram/ memb...

Re: Metronome engine question

@tibsim
It looks like the displacer has to be denser than most stirlings to assist to compress and rarify the air in the gas diode ?
Also more close fit to the cylinder?
What do I need to do to get the shortest hose? Smaller diameter?

Re: Metronome engine question

@tibsim
Thank you.
I also think I may try magnet springs , might work to counter balance mass of magnet.
Thanks for speaking English, I appreciate it. I am only a one language person. Need to use google translator.

Metronome engine question

This question is for those who have metronome Engine experience. Q: Am I right in thinking that the heavier the displacer is (plus magnet) , the longer the hose has to be? I would like to make some with linear alternators on the displacer shaft. Q: Also can the hose be vertical (straight up) ? I hav...

@ Ian sc
Yes the kerosene is called K-1 grade. The wicks are made from fiberglass cloth. Google kerosene heater and it will show the heaters we use to keep from freezing to death, when the power grid goes out.
