Dual Acting Cylinders
Has there been much work done on dual acting cylinders for Stirling engines? (A dual acting cylinder is commonly found on 20th century steam locomotives. It is a design in which steam flows into a chamber first on one side of the power piston and then the other side, functionally acting as a two cyl...

Thanks for your leads, Stan. I've also seen a mechanism using two elliptical gears to drive the displacer in an almost intermittent manner. Here's the link: http://www.stirlingsouth.com/richard/develop/engines_under_development.htm They claim that the initial tests have been favorable, but they stop...

Way to go Roy! Using the polyester laminating resin is brilliant. I've found that the hardest single component to fabricate is the power cylinder/piston and you've found a great solution. My latest engine uses a glass syringe for the cylinder and piston, so my dimensions are restricted by the syring...

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and the hobby of hot air engine building but my most recent design has given me quite a bit of confidence in addressing the questions generated in this thread. Take it (or leave it) with a grain of salt, and please don't hesitate to fire out more questions! Oh boy did y...

Displacer motion
Hi Guys, Thank you Darryl for creating this forum, as I have few places to bounce my ideas. I've been thinking about how the displacer moves in its cylinder in a basic beta or gamma engine. With a circular motion driving a fixed con-rod the displacer should be moving in a sinusoidal manner (that is,...
