Re: LTD-GTID

Hi,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpYtIoTWi3k

31 units have been built so far this schoolyear.
Pitty we were to late to show them all at the same time during open door. Only a few were ready. Still, we're very happy with the result.

Re: Stirling 'first run'

Hi, These students are (depending what grade) 14 to 18 years old. They all love to work with this kinda project. I have several classes, in total about 50 pupils. The lights are also made by these kids. PowerLED's pointing upward onto a curved highly reflective foil. When the lights of the room dim,...

Re: Stirling 'first run'

Showtime during open door is coming our way...! My pupils are very proud with these engines. They worked very hard to accomplish this result. http://gti-duffel.be/4B/StirlingCD/Stirling-CD04.mpg In the movie the engines do run but were not completely finished, but this very moment they are. Some min...

Re: Finished engine with useful work

Ante, My neighbour and myself are working on a similar thing. Goal is to have this thing working before mid june. We're planning to use a electromotor but this is a very simpel and elegant and clever solution. Why didn't I think of that myself, using a stirling to rotate the pig. Question : what typ...

Re: Stirling 'first run'

Unfortunately, I can't load quicktime, but its good your little motor is on the rails and going. Ithink the rail people get round the problem of tight running on curves by widening the track a fraction, not enough for the wheels to fall through, just enough to give the flanges clearance, you might ...

Re: Stirling 'first run'

maidenrun.....! http://gti-duffel.be/4B/StirlingCD/Stirling-CD03.mpg a little bit extra power is needed to force itself easier and faster through the curved parts of the track. but beside this minor 'problem' we're very happy with the result. While running it sounds rather load but that's because it...

Re: LTD-GTID

After a few months of hard work and lots of adaptations the first LTD is a fact. My pupils have worked very hard, most parts are done, so we need to start assembling these (40) engines. The first one is running. Lots of smaller growing pains have been encountered and solved. This one runs at about 1...

Re: Stirling 'first run'

Hi there, This engine got faster after it has 'ran in' for an hour or two. http://gti-duffel.be/4B/StirlingCD/Stirling-CD02.mpg Compare the speed with the first link higher up in this thread. I did not expect it would run this fast at all. Still, it needs to be tuned some more. It has not been balan...

Diameter ratio

Hi there,

Is there a rule of thumb what the diameter relation is between the displacer and the workcilinder for a LTD stirling...?
There are several solution I guess, but what is ideal...?

LTD-GTID

Hi, This is what we're up to with our class this school-year. http://gti-duffel.be/4B/StirlingLTD/LTD-GTI.jpg In the original concept the top-cover is made out of aluminium. Mounted on that cover are the workcilinder and the bearing bush for the displacer-rod. To make things easier during building I...

Re: Stirling 'first run'

The kids (second grade) made all the parts and together we did the polishing and assembling.
Some of them came even after hours to help me out. Great kids..!

Re: Stirling 'first run'

Ian,

Don't understand what happened, maybe there is a problem with the resising of that image. I posted an image to large... sorry...!
But there is also a link showing the engine in motion.
