Re: stovetop engine, and maybe more.

Single coil Ian? Could you have added a few more coils around the magnet to offset the flux around elsewhere, as the engine looks OK.

Re: stovetop engine, and maybe more.

It is a very impressive looking heat engine, especially with that large fan. It should would work with a generator as it looks powerful. Your last post said that the Ringborn engine was more powerful. Do you know if they could be adapted to suit a axial flux generator. I am building one now for my n...

Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine

Hi Than - Can't take a photo of the beam engine just yet as the radiator (believe it or not - due to Christmas holidays) has yet not arrived. The pictures are of the diaphragm Gamma engine and another that I have made with a 2"piston. I have used a air operated water pump on that one as well. P...

Re: generators

High CB - Try a small load or a resistor of 1000 Ohm's across the terminals. This will give you a more accurate reading. I have had the same thing happen to me when I over revved a small dc motor and found when putting on a load, its voltage remained stable and accurate.

Re: soda can stirling engine trouble

The steel wool works best for these soft drink can engines (Good regenerator) and they can go pretty fast. Just make sure that the ateel wool is loosely packed as it does rub against the displacer cylinder.

Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine

Hi Ian & Thanh - Thanks for that info Ian. I do some times use a pulley between the bearing mounts as well. IN this case I use home made belting or the Polyurethane weld type. One of the best belts I have made for pulleys especially flat belt types is cloth tape or more rightly known as Gaffa Ta...

Re: stovetop engine, and maybe more.

Hi Ian - Looks as if you used a conrod from another engine there. Very nice job of the plumber type blocks you have built. Looks as if the engine has a lot of power.

The model engineer, I actually stopped prescribing to. They had too much that was beyond my lathe work and kept the projects going over too long a time. That's life ...... Trev

Thanks Ian - I like your mechanical junk ideas, I would not have thought that you could even pull them apart, Good One.. It's great that we all share our info - Do you know of any other forum site that we should be on? There seems to be a few, but seem to do much.

Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine

Hey Thanh! I am now changing my Diaphragm Beta engine to a Gamma one and using the air diaphragm for the water pump so I can save some energy from friction of pulleys etc.
Ian, What a great idea of using old shock absorbers for the heating chamber - Thanks guys
