Re: Ways to increase thermal conductivity of working gas.

It would be a nice thing for a low temp engine. For a high temp engine, using a internal heater (heat sink) is much more effective. I personally do not like to use many small heating tubes. It is just too many parts and more likely to have a leak. Now, we just have to figure out how to get the heat ...

One thing I never figured out is how people attach the PVC pipe to the coke can.

Re: Ways to increase thermal conductivity of working gas.

which it really should be if you are worrying about power, and efficiency. Isn't this why we are working on stirlings.  The bottom line is. We need to get a lot of heat in to/out of the working gas very quickly. Stirlings are already in a disadvantage as the temperature is much lower t...

Ways to increase thermal conductivity of working gas.

Has been experimenting the said subject and found the results fascinating. Both ionizing and adding a little mercury to the working gas can increase the thermal conductivity a lot. However, I do not have measurements.

That's really terrible. Hope everyone is OK. Especially the engineering team.

Re: Is my epoxy piston good enough?

Piston is less than a gram in weight. It requires 75 grams of extra weight to slowly push the piston down when the cylinder is sealed.

Re: Hi there!

Welcome to the club. I recently made a few JB weld pistons. It should be fine for a low to mid temperature engine. From Wiki J-B WELD can withstand a constant temperature of 500 °F (260 °C), and the maximum temperature threshold is approximately 600 °F (316 °C) for 10 minutes A tin can stirling is g...

Re: Is my epoxy piston good enough?

Just casted another epoxy piston with a bushing. The piston now falls through without seal and stops moving when sealed.

Re: found: plans and research for 100W solar alpha stirling

The only way to measure power output is to use a dyno. Everything else is speculation. onecycleDan1990, I initially suspected that engine would produce 100w with that small heat exchanger surface. If you know the material used to make the hot cap, its surface, its thinness (also the temperature diff...

Here is a link if you like hype. http://www.superengine.de/e-lebendiges-totvolumen.html That sounds like a thermoacoustic engine. Check this out too. http://www.io.com/~frg/ Just go through their site. I think their claim is way too optimistic. (http://www.io.com/~frg/tac.htm) Their youtube video h...

Re: found: plans and research for 100W solar alpha stirling

Maybe I missed something. I read the Final Report but never saw any reference about "100w" output. Also, there is no reference to type of gas used in the test and at what pressure; I will have to assume that this engine was tested with air and at 1 bar. The use of internal fins is a good i...

The steam people are facing the same problem. As a matter of fact. There are more challenges with steam. Anyone built a closed system steam engine yet?

Great ideas.
I got a new bushing. They are cheap. I am just helping my kid for a school project. Mine engines are machined.
