Re: V-twin compressor pump...
Here's an example of what I think would be a very good place to start from. It is a prototype Vee twin similar in size to the compressor in question. I would recommend building something much like this and optimizing various dimensions. Here is a link to the full article in pdf format: http://journa...

Re: VERY old plans for large, high torque engine
A good example of what a modern version of the engine I described in the first post of this thread might look like is the Sunflower solar engine designed by Bill Gross for Energy Innovations, a subsidiary of Idealabs (founded by Bill Gross). It is also a large high temperature difference gamma with ...

Re: Cheap carbon displacer piston?
An interesting thought, but would be delicate and brittle, would be hard to control porosity and density. What kind of engine is this for? What heat source, working fluid are you using. Concept might work for an LTD engine, but in my opinion it would be a lot of work setting up molds and dealing wit...

Re: VERY old plans for large, high torque engine
My ideas for improvement on this engine are as follows. 1. replace the steel pipe displacer cylinder with spun or deep drawn stainless less than one millimeter thickness. spun for small numbers, deep drawn in the event someone wants to sell many for a profit 2. reduce displacer to cylinder gap to ab...

VERY old plans for large, high torque engine
Surprised nobody mentioned this before (either that or a bad search engine) From the book Amateur Work Three (3) from 1904! Published by Draper Publishing Company The plans detail a large gamma engine with 3 inch stroke and 2.5 inch bore power piston and 3 inch bore displacer piston. The displacer c...

Re: Modern take on old alpha Rider
good idea about the two crankshafts, one adjustable. as for regeneration, at this stage in planning a formal mesh/foil/wool/etc regenerator will be absent. The hot and cold caps will be more than 3 diameters long and made of (if I can afford the molds) spun 18/10 stainless. Instead of paying for 2 m...

Modern take on old alpha Rider
I intend to eventually build an inline alpha engine based on the old 2 cylinder rider pumping engines. It will strongly resemble an engine built by Devin and seen here on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0priQGnkHcs The main difference will be the presence of a "cold cap" much like a hot cap...
