Yes, but you need to add the Heylandt Crown on top of the hot piston. Give it 1 mm to 1.5 mm clearance on the diameter, and 2 mm on the end, the crown should be as light as possible, mild steel is OK, but thin stainless steel is better. The same motor before I changed it to air cooling, with the little power hacksaw that sometimes replaces the generator. It will actually cut a 13 mm steel bar in a bit over 20 minutes, not too bad for about 5Watts of power.

Thanks for that Bumkin, as a first thought it could be used to line the furnace around the hot cap of a Stirling Engine. Also the blackened stuff (what ever you want to call it) could be wrapped round the cool end to dissipate heat. Something to think about.

If you have a machine shop, and know what you are doing, 50 Watts is not impossible to build your self. I think I can see why the motor wont work, you have a large clearance around the displacer rod, you need absolute minimum without binding/friction.
