Re: MPPT for Stirling Engines
Nice little setup NerdyEE. Could the curved response be a result of the thermal lag. Once the cold sides thermal mass/sink temperature transfer, catches up with outward thermal conduction and lag, its overall temp starts to increase creating a lower Delta t. Just a thought, not even sure if my comme...

Re: Big Stirling Engine
Hey Ian I am hoping, from what NerdyEE has said, that the item has been dispatched and is in transit (via sea I guess, I hope there are no bananas on board). If they are a company run by people of repute, and are in someway reading this topic, then they could do well to spend a bit of time looking a...

Re: Big Stirling Engine
Thanks Ian, that 1watt per cc is a handy reference, cant remember if I've read it before but I’m locking it in this time. The 20% was generous. I'll do another more realistic breakdown of their 10kW Engine claim (that seems to have now been retracted) 20k BTU/hr = 5.8614213889kWh therefore at a 5% e...

Re: MPPT for Stirling Engines
NerdyEE/(J), Please don’t for one second think that you’ve taken over this discussion. I am totally stoked that this topic interests you, and that you wish to be involved. (It also intrigued me, that’s why I raised it.). I think you’re skills are just what the doctor ordered. I really appreciate the...

Re: MPPT for Stirling Engines
Yikes! Ok so I am officially and very quickly way out of my depth on this topic. (like I am on many). But I am getting the gist of it in small increments. I have used MPPT's in systems I have made. But I'm not really familiar with their inner workings. Here's a portable system I made to power my she...

Re: Big Stirling Engine
yep right I see Ian So I just did a couple quick calcs and, If you were to have 20k BTU/hr flame powering an engine that was 20% percent efficient after all your combined exhaust and engine losses (and it would have to be fairly pressurised I would think, or fairly large) and a generator that’s 90% ...

Re: MPPT for Stirling Engines
Thanks NerdyEE, 'dither and lock', so that’s what the process is called. The way you explain it makes sense to me that it would work as required. Maybe generator mppt's on the market use this process and would work on a Stirling engine driven generator, but i suspect there are load responses (mark s...

Re: Big Stirling Engine
Hey NerdyEE' Checked out the links and website. I see what you r saying about the 20 BTU's http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/energy/BTU_to_kWh.htm and this is at a 100% thermal conversion efficiency, wth. They must have lost more than a few zeros in the page translation. Anyway I hope you still get...

You can get LTD engines like this one on ebay..(i'm not recommending this one, its just an example) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Low-Temperature-Stirling-Engine-Motor-Model-Steam-Heat-Education-Toy-Kits-LT001-/230825080694?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item35be3f3776#ht_2882wt_924 http://v.youku.com...

Re: CPU stirling cooler
rustybarrel,
I think your right in saying they might be a technology demonstrator. One could also use a Thermoelectric effect to drive the fan, but still, it is a great display of the flexible applications of hot air engines.

Re: New Member
srt,
describe your engine and also link a working/(non-working) video, or at least some pictures. There are plenty of good people on this forum that will assist you if they can.

Re: Shop Teacher New Member Advice
Bryan, I should also mention that if you are to demonstrate a working Stirling engine in class, then I suggest,as a responsible educator for 'health and safety' reasons you should first label the device with this notice... WARNING- The demonstration and making of Stirling engines may result in a pot...

Russian rotary Stirling engine?
OK so its not in English and my knowledge of the Russian language hovers somewhere around the word vodka, but translated the title is 'External combustion engine' and it is definitely talking about Stirling engines (there are also some other engines mentioned though) does anyone understand Russian? ...
