Re: Is this a working design
Floid, Nice job for a first effort. I'm still trying to scrape together the right parts for my first attempt (an Alpha configuration). I think I’ll end up having to make a few unwanted compromises if I want to get a move on.. Sounds like you've tried plenty of things to get to the problem, but I mig...

Re: Funny Stirling Engines!!
How do you end up with a small fortune from making Stirling engines?
You start off with a large fortune....
(I stole this from a comment I read somewhere, I hope it isn't true)

Re: Philips Stirling Engine Price $
The subject came up about stirling engines (cos i cant seem to shut up about them at the moment) with a friend at a barby recently and he reiterated a story to me about an uncle of his that had a 'Philips stirling engine'. I showed him pictures and he recognised seeing it (and also touching it) as a...

Philips Stirling Engine Price $

Re: absorption cooling for cold side
Interesting idea. Could you still employ the water cooling and also have a secondary cooler/heat exchanger sourced from the refrigerant. (a 2 stage cooling cycle). As long as your refrigerator heat is sourced entirely from unusable exhaust heat then it can only be a gain... I realise you are also tr...

Anodised Aluminium options?
I'm wondering what experiences/opinions others have in regards to choosing a type and method of anodising (plain or black (or coloured)) on different aluminium components in stirling engine designs. Also what type or level of finish, prior to anodising, is best suited in regards to optimising therma...

Why do soda cans make good stirling engines?
Because theyre full of pop!

I guess Baked Bean and Spagetti tins would work well also...
(sorry, but any Respectable joke list requires a fart joke)

Funny Stirling Engines!!
Changed the Topic and the 1st joke a bit. A 'Stirling engine piston' and an 'Internal combustion engine piston' walk into a bar, order a beer, and are seated. The Internal Combustion piston rotates 90 degrees to the Stirling piston and says, I Carnot afford that, can you absorb it, to help take up t...

Rider-Ericsson Hot-Air Rebuild
Sniffed out this engine in the shed of a local farmer. He's a stationary engine enthusiast (and general collector of stuff) and he came across this beast a few years ago. It was used bye the Chinese in Australia during the gold rush. He's in the slow process of restoring it. He's very mechanically m...

Re: Reverse Stirling Cycle Configuration
Thanks Ian, As always really great information. I'm trying to get my my head around (at least on very old napkins) A multi-directional stirling engine that can produce heating or cooling, or work off a hot/cold drive source. I think the problem is designing an engine that functions with parameters t...

Reverse Stirling Cycle Configuration
I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge regarding the use of Alpha type configuration for heating and cooling. I know philips and other companies use the Beta format, very successfully, for their cryogenerators and you can mechanically rotate all forms of stirling/heat engines to generate hot and ...

Animated Engines Really helpful website for understanding stirling and other type engines. You can slow stop, reverse and manually rotate engines by using slider bar. I came across it a couple of years ago and spent much time looking at it and playing with the animations. It helped me get my head a...

Re: Website Links Area
Philips stirling engine technology videos... Really good explanation about stirling engine processes strait from the Guru's, Philips... Starts slow, but is really worth the 15 minutes of your time in my opinion. (there's even a 30hp stirling powered boat) The Stirling Cycle part 1 (Stirling Cryogen...
