Re: Engine Part Help for Norway

You can get a similar part in the UK, It's a 22mm push fit overflow overflow. I think they're used on toilet cisterns for the over flow. No idea if you could get them in Norway though. I used them in some of my Stirling engines. http://s7g3.scene7.com/is/image/ae235/?$p$&wid=281&hei=281&...

Really good Jim. Nice and clear. The only thing I'd change is to number them so they can be watched in order

They've exceeded their funding target, so we will hopefully be seeing the engine available in the not too distant future

Cardboard walking beam engine kits

If any one is interested, I have a cheap little kit I put together for sale. It's a cardboard walking beam engine, all of the metal parts are supplied, you just have to cut out the cardboard parts from a thick corrugated cardboard. The engine has also been made out of oak by one buyer. I intended th...

Re: iv needle as displacer rod

It should work fine. More surface area is better, but it'll work without a regenerator. They're not tightly wrapped though, just enough to hold themselves in shape, as you want the air to flow through them if you can. My wire wool displacers for a coke can engine are around 10g in weight. Not too he...

Re: iv needle as displacer rod

0.4mm are you sure ? I seem to remember it being 0.2mm when I started using them. It doesn't leak too much anyway. Anyway, the following engines I made all use this tube and rod and they work fine : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J15Al2b-Aa4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9uCuGjOSHM http://www.yout...

Re: iv needle as displacer rod

The gravity driven engines to tend to run pretty slow compared to solid shaft versions. I use 1/16" brass rod
sliding in a 3/32 brass tube from K&S metals for my solid rod engines, works well.

Re: My first stirling... on the brink of failure. HELP!

Most of these SFA engines that don't run, are not running because the displacer bushing is too loose, so it leaks a lot. Have you tried submerging it in hot water to see if there are any air leaks?

Re: My first stirling... on the brink of failure. HELP!

A few questions : Does anything at all happen when you heat it up ? Do the cranks turn just a little? What heat source are you using?

Re: Stainless water bottle Stirling

I got them working, but they're a long way from what I'd planned. Really hard to bend them into the shape you
want. Approtechies cranks seem to be much neater, but I don't know what his secret is :)

Stainless water bottle Stirling

Here is my water bottle Stirling engine I've been building. It's a work in progress, any suggestions welcome. The alternator is to be replaced with a permanent magnet axial flux type soon. You tube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J15Al2b-Aa4 The displacer cylinder is a SS drinks bottle, i...

Re: Photo Gallery Coming Very Soon!

I have a little Stirling gallery on Gsites , it's very time consuming adding engines by hand though, so something more automated like this forum would be great ! http://sites.google.com/site/tincanstirlingenginegallery/ I have the categories : Coke can engines, tin can engines, LTD engines and other...

18/8 Stainless ok for displacer cylinder?

As some of you might be aware I've been trying to build my own version of approtechies water bottle Stirling engine design. I built one out of a 500ml aluminium which works well. Stainless steel is supposed to be a much better material for the displacer cylinders. I'm going to build a 1 litre versio...
