Re: toy alpha engine
Hi Guys - Ian is right CB and SS fine wool is a real problem as bits of it get into the seals and cause all sorts of problems, however, the coarse one does not and seems top hold together. I have ran my fan one for another 15 hr long run a couple of days ago and was not a problem. I was amazed at it...

Thanks Thanh - Yep! same circuit. You are a genius at work.

Re: My Stirling engine with small generator and one led !!
I take it that the increasing volt circuit is the one you showed on a couple of our posts, because they were pretty good.

Re: My Stirling engine with small generator and one led !!
Interesting Thanh, I thought it would be a little more than that as most LED's I have tried require around 3volts to be seen clearly though some do come on at a lower voltage but not 1.5V. That is quite good mate.

Re: toy alpha engine
Interesting idea of yours Ian - Using Stainless Steel coarse scourer in a small model seems to work better that a solid displacer. Some of the small models I have, have been converted to SS wool and I get better results. Also some small tape drive motors make excellent DC generators and will work un...

Re: My Stirling engine with small generator and one led !!
Thanh, that's a nice job and looks great with the paintwork. Do you know how much your little DC generator puts out.

Re: generators
If you can get a small 3phase or stepper motor, ie from an old video machine, you are very much there. They spin easily and will produce AC voltage which can be rectified and at low rpm. All the small DC motors I have tried need to be run at a few thousand revs and this makes it hard. Jaycar do have...

Re: generators
High CB - Most multimeters will have current reading on them. You should be able to measure from 50mA, 250mA and even up to 10Amps. The 10Amp range on a meter is quite good. The red lead from the multimeter will go to the generator positive side and the black lead from the meter will go to the eithe...

Alas! Wo is me Ian. I canna nota doa mu radio unles da with valves (hahaha).
I am from the valve era Ian and man, would I love to be able to run a battery type one, but will still need 90+ volts or so.

Re: Axial Flux Generator - Experimental Model
Hi Ian - You always make my day. One day I hope I get the chance to meet you in person.
That small Generator should get what I need as the engine should be able to put out the 400 rpm I require and at approx. 6v. With the LED Lighting I am considering will only draw 220mA. Here's hoping Ian!

Axial Flux Generator - Experimental Model
HI - Just got back from a few weeks off down south and noticed a lot of action while I was gone. Ian mate, like those engines of yours and I think there was a discussion on generators, hence this post. The photo is of the axial generator I finished a few weeks ago and never got to try it out. The di...

High CB, that was a very impressive video. Solves the problem of exploding batteries. Being made of plastics, I think that the charging time would be slow.

Re: Disappointing
CB - I think you may be wrong there. On one of the NASA sites you will see that they are using Stirling engines in outer space due to the massive temperature difference and I do believe there will be a Stirling engine for the future, though, probably not in my life time. The electric motor (Tesla) a...
