Trying to build beta stirling engine

Post by austin »

I'm working on building a beta type stirling engine for school but before I move on to fabrication of the engine I would like to make sure my dimensions and ratios are correct for the engine to run. I am planning to make this engine vertical.
Here is a sketch of my dimensions

https://docs.google.com/document/d/18ew ... sp=sharing

The hot cylinder will be: 55mm long and 18mm wide
The cool cylinder will be: 36mm long and 18mm wide
My displacer will be: 36mm long and 17mm wide
My power piston will be: 10mm long and fit in the cool cylinder
Strokes: Both strokes for the pistons will be 20mm long

Can anyone help verify that this engine if built correct will run? Thank you so much.

As the bore for the displacer and power piston is the same, the stroke of the displacer must be increased to obtain the ratio of 1.5 : 1, ie 20 mm stroke for the power piston, 30 mm stroke for the displacer.
This is the second motor that I built in 1994, its still going strong. Its based on Dyna, a motor designed by James G. Rizzo in "The Stirling Engine Manual", and "Modelling Stirling and Hot Air Engines"
