An LTD type engine might not be the best design. An alpha or some other type might due just as well or better, but I always thought seeing was believing. That large LTD in the video Aviator168 posted is driving a 1500 watt generator. Isn't it?

I wonder what the intended purpose of the thing might be.
Complete elimination of side load and there are other benefits for IC.
BTW. This is not new at all. Look at this 1802 steam engine.

New, magnetic hypocycloid gear idea:

So pretty solution!

Magnetic gear can't be used in a crank. A very important function of the crank is to synchronize the movements of the pistons, can't have any slippages.

Had a look at the magnetic Hypocyloid gear yesterday when I was looking for something else, it did not show the gear under load, or indicate the amount of drag caused by the magnets.

Compression of a small amount of air can generate considerable heat.

The hypocycloid gear seems to be a variety of the trammel of Archimedes:

I've been contemplating various possible applications. This information, in particular the video, gives me a much better idea of how to go about designing and building some such thing.

A search on "Tusi couple" yields additional info on this kind of mechanism:
