Gasmachinenenfabrik Amberg

Hello

I'm a 67 years old retired electonical engineer from The Netherlands.
Yesterday I got this engine from a nefew, cleaned it a little today and tried
to get it working.
But no. Does anyone know how to get this working.
Do I have to close the in and out holes in the big cilinder ?
Everything turns good by hand but no moving by heating.
I used an electrical hot air blower and a butane gas weed burner.
If someone can tell me more about this engine or have any
suggestions to make it work, please give a reaction.

Jan, the vertical pipe above the cylinder, and the one out the front with a tap are for the water cooling. There will be some sort of seal on the rod coming out of the displacer cylinder, this should have minimum friction, but also minimum air leakage. There should be minimum leakage around the power piston.
What is the translation of the word Actiengesellschaft.
Middle photo, rear left, is this a water pump?

Thanks for the reactions. I am also member of the SmokTrak forum and I got some tips allready.
They said it's not so easy to get it running but I'll keep on trying.
I have contact with a German collector who has one of these engines.
I don't speak German so It has to be in English.
If anyone has more tips, everything is very welcome.

Jan, it probably ran on town gas (coal gas), it will need quite a bit of heat, but it must be very free running. You will need to heat it for a few minutes, then try starting it, it should at lest give an indication of if it's going to go. For lubrication, use a light grade of oil, maybe sewing machine oil. Motor oil is too viscous, and causes drag.

Ian S C: Actiengesellschaft means something like 'public company' a company with limited liability.

That engine looks quite OK.
The link to the other forum mentioned looks very useful.
Good luck with trying to get it running, very interesting engine!
If you need any help with the translation of German to Dutch or English, maybe I can help a little bit.
You can also use translate.google.nl for translating. It's a rough translation, but most of the times you'll be able to figure out what they meant to say.

Let us know when you get it running!

Best Regards from a fellow Dutchmen :)
