It' got to stand the force of stopping and starting a few hundred times per minute without breaking up, I imagine if the particles get into the likes of the gland that the displacer rod passes, it will cause considerable wear. Ian S C

Hi, I glued the blocks together and started to shape. The weight is heavier then I thought it would be. Adding up the cost to fabricate with a epoxy coating and considering the weight, makes it unsuitable for this project. You also make a valid point, thank you. I am continuing to add the water jacket and should be testing in a few days. Thanks again.

Hi, the high temp is 350 F. This is my first Stirling project so I am not making any recommendations.

Power piston had to much friction, reconfigured to power bellows.

It looks like for an initial 25% absolute temperature difference they'd design for about a 6% expansion with a 16-1 displacement ratio. Granted, there will be drops in difference through the exchanges, but it seems that if you design more towards the theoretical potential, the engine will find its own best speed where the exchangers can keep up. (This might be where the forum thread on MPPTs comes into relevance.) Certainly twice the torque at half the speed isn't an improvement, but the speed loss MIGHT not be that bad, and it seems a shame to give away potential right up front.

At any rate I've only been reducing the absolute temperature ratio by a factor of 2 instead of 4 for my own displacement ratio figuring. (Which still hasn't produced anything useful.) I'd like to know more about the goals and outcome of their project. Do you have a source to more about that page?

Hi, I do not have any other info on the pdf. It may be a student paper.

Working on increasing expansion volume and increasing surface area on the hot side.
