Sterling engine technical

Hi everyone,
So glad I found you!
I'm building an Alpha type Sterling engine (my first) to drive a BBQ spit. It is a budget engine made without any machine tools - so a little "Heath/Robinson" I guess.
I have lots of questions but let me start with this please...
