BETA Timing/First post

Just discovered this forum and I'm creating my first post.

I'm working on a Beta design... I've used the "search" function to try to find an answer to my question but still getting mixed answers. The question is, where is the best place to start in terms of setting up the timing for a Beta style motor design.. 90°? we've been rocking 110 so far as I read somewhere that was the best but maybe someone with knowledge could summarize succinctly the best place to start...

Every engine is different, but 90 degrees is the standard starting point. You will have to do some testing to see what your engine likes, so it's best to make the timing easily adjustable.

Right, that's what we're going to do, probably have a few different crankshafts and we'll swap them out..

A problem with the Beta is that changing timing changes the clearance between piston and displacer, so you'll need to allow for that in the different experiments.
